As Mayor, Sam Joshi has...

Kept our Community Safe

  • Police department increased to 199 officers, the largest police force in 18 years 73 officers have been hired or promoted in Mayor Joshi’s term.
     

  • Led the charge on the statewide crime bill passage. S-3006/3204, increase penalties for juveniles who commit home invasions and burglaries.
     

  • Hired 42 new firefighters bringing the total number of firefighters to 138
     

  • Built 2 new police substations, 1 in Oak Tree road, and 1 in Menlo Mall
     

  • Implemented real time video calls during 911 emergencies, and installed 130+ automated license plate readers.

Stabilized Taxes & Prioritized Affordability

  • Stabilizing Taxes brought the first tax decrease since 1988. While expanding services to the community. 
     

  • Breaking up the internet monopoly in town by allowing Xfinity/Comcast to provide internet services.
     

  • Bringing in $19 Million in Federal, State, and Local grant money for projects and programs across the township.
     

  • Connecting residents with the Stay NJ program he championed, helping seniors save 50% on their property taxes.

Improved Infrastructure

  • Improving safety and efficiency in over 20(24 total) Intersections through the townships engineering department.
     

  • Building a brand new Recycling Center and Sewage facility.
     

  • Paving 48 Miles of roads.
     

  • Securing 1.6 million for EV passenger vehicles to facilitate the Light Transit Program currently being put together.
     

  • Invested in Sewer and water pipe infrastructure with 156 million in projects brought back.

Expanded Access to Parks & Recreation

  • Making improvements and upgrades to all 32 parks in Edison.
     

  • Improving 28 courts/ 10 Basketball Courts, 5 pickleball courts, 4 tennis courts, 9 sand volleyball courts.
     

  • Building a new football field at central ave and a new baseball field at Papaianni Park.
     

  • Opening the towns only two New Community Gardens.
     

  • Completing Edison’s first Splash Park for our families to enjoy.

Stood Up for Seniors

  • Bringing back the Mr. Fix-It program. Providing nearly 3,000(2756 total) repairs since 2022.
     

  • Making transportation accessible for seniors by bringing back the Senior Transportation Program. Providing nearly 15,000(14,801 total).
     

  • Expanding to 2 Senior Centers. 
     

Made Government more Accessible

  • Holding 146 community meetings in 2024 alone.
     

  • Instituting open office hours so residents and groups of concerned people can speak to the Mayor and administration about their issues.
     

  • Creating a portal on the cities website to easily reach out about complaints and a QR code to access it. 
     

  • Holding over 400 Community Meetings over the course of his first term.
